Mr. Sinclair is the mayor New Haven, him and his family are well known and looked up to. What no one knows is Mr. Sinclair has been having an affair with Ms. Benson for over a year. Mrs. Sinclair has known, her and her husband haven't had a good relationship in a long time, but she couldn't deal with the talk if she divorced him. He doesn't mean to be selfish and ignore his daughter's needs, he just can't handle her death. He hasn't noticed all the trouble his daughter has gotten herself into, her bad grades and bad friends. She gave up on her father, now she just wants to find her own way to deal with things.

Jacobs was always the trouble maker of New Haven, which meant a lot of stairs and rumors. He had always wanted to get out of town, planned to when he graduated high school, but someone held him back. He meant Taber his senior year. She wasn't more important than any other girl he'd dated, except she ended up carrying his child. Pregnant at fifteen in New Haven had been a big scandal, not only were they not married but they were so young. Both were kicked out of their homes, Jacobs got a job as a mechanic and Taber got stuck waitress part time to afford their apartment and a new baby. They both resent and blame each other, but they love their son who is now five, they stay together for him and because they need each other for support.
