people change and promises are broken clouds can move and skies will be wide open why had he even volunteered to do summer school classes anyways? the principal had approached him near the end of the last school year and suggested that as a new teacher, experience was an asset and instructing a summer course would look good on future job applications. it would provide him with expectations of what the full school year would be like. riley knew what a full school year would be like - he had gone through thirteen of them, had he not? then he went on to three years in university, which was another three years. to be perfectly honest, riley was wishing he would've taken a year off after high school. a few guys from his class had gone to austrailia for a year and riley was almost going to go, but his father convinced him otherwise. he enjoyed the month or so after graduation, then went right on to minot university.
he could tell that there were students in here for a class before he had put his stack of folders on the desk in the front of the classroom. juice boxes and paper bags littered the floor near the back, and riley could call up names on who he knew did it. even though he had been that way when he was a student, seeing kids have no respect for the school building or the teachers was a major piss off. riley never really had been a back-talker, but he knew he should apologize for a few of his former-teachers-turned-co-workers in the near future for his actions. the empty room was a bit of a distraction. he knew he should be marking these papers, but thinking back on his own high school memories were the worst distractions he could possibly imagine.
hmm. maybe i should put on music or something. that would help him. music had always helped him focus. he reached into his pants pockets to find his ipod touch, then proceeded to pull out the earbuds and put on a random song on shuffle. immediately, he felt like he would be able to do these papers with no distractions. he had twenty-seven kids in his current class, and he had managed to grade two of them over the past three hours. now, though, he was halfway done marking the third with minimum effort on his part. his pen seemed to write numbers beside each question/answer to the beat of the music, and he hummed along while performing his current task. song after song passed, and the file that needed to be marked was growing smaller and the pile that had been marked was definitely growing. he was so into his marking that he didn't even hear the door open, and he continued to hum along to the song that was playing and tapping his pen on the desk while he read over an answer. *Lipstick has a way of leaving more than just a mark on my sheets, ! coloring my senses cherry red; at least for this week... To force Sienna Antony to spend even a little bit of her precious summer at her school was cruel and unusual punishment. Stupid Mrs. Gunther. Leave it up to that crusty old bat to give the girl the ultimatum of failing the class and getting kicked off the cheerleading squad or go to summer school. Why did she really have to know anything about Physics anyway? It wasn't as if she was seriously about to become a scientist or God forbid, a high school science teacher. The very thought made her skin crawl. So basically, she was going to be spending half of her summer here in summer school and the other half at cheer camp. At least she had her weekends.
She walked the halls of the school with a few of the people who were here who she could actually tolerate. Right in the middle of talking about some cow that had bumped into her she said, "Shit! I completely forgot my Prada bag under the table. I'll catch you guys later." She turned in her wedges and headed back towards the classroom. Once she got there she opened the door and noticed that there was a teacher there. She hadn't seen him there when she'd left. He definitely wasn't her summer school Trig teacher, which is the class she had in this room.
Without a word she walked over to the lab table she'd been sitting at and was happy to see the bag was still under the table. Good. No one had put their grubby little hands on her bag. She picked it up and put it on her shoulder. She walked towards the front of the class. It took her a second to realize that the teacher sitting up front was her summer school Physics teacher, Riley Walker. Wasn't their class like four doors down?
"Am I daft or something? This isn't the class we have physics in right?" she said, her London accent quite pronounced. * Kisses under starry night skies, talked about in song ! , we play along, so bitter sweet by our design. tagged , riley! outfit , outfit!words , . lyrics , the girl's a straight up hustler by all time low status , finished. notes , best friends!!

riley heard some footsteps - some loud ones at that - but knew that around this time students were being let out of classes. he looked at his watch and nodded to himself. yeah, definitely. that meant he really only had to stay here for another hour or so and he was good. he could go before that if he wanted, but he needed to get all this marking done before he left or he'd never finish it at home. home had far too many distractions. he could deal with footsteps and talking in the hallways here. he stopped humming along to the music that was playing when the song changed, and during that short frame he heard something be taken and he looked up to see that it was sienna, and she was getting her bag. he hadn't noticed it at all when he had came in the room, but he wasn't exactly looking for student's belongings either, so that could easily be why.
the twenty-one-year-old figured that she'd leave as soon as she got her bag, so he returned his eyes back to the paper he pulled from the lesser stack. oh, god. there was this kid in his class that loved writing long, complex explanations for everything, even when riley specifically said, "i only need one or two sentences". riley flipped the paper over and exhaled loudly, sighing to himself. he really didn't want to read through the entire thing. he once had completely skipped over an entire question sheet he had given the kid and just gave him 8/10, but he had felt bad afterwards. so, he was sentenced to reading this whole thing.
before he could even finish reading the first few lines, he heard the girl walk to the front. he lifted his eyes once more to see her standing near the front desk, and she spoke to him. riley tilted his head slightly to the side and smiled. "no. it's not." he shook his head and looked around the room. this definitely would not be a classroom he'd want to teach in. no, this was just a room he found empty at the time and figured he'd be able to have a little bit of silence while he marked. "physics is down the hall, i just sat down here to mark. my room is being taken over by other staff for some sort of meeting that i was not invited to." riley didn't much care that he wasn't invited to this meeting. since he was just starting and was brand new at the whole teaching thing, staff meetings weren't of much interest to him as he didn't have anything to discuss. he didn't want to listen to them drone on and on about small matters that he didn't care about - he already went through 4 years of that.
